With my growing interest and use of WordPress as a blogging tool I was recently forced to face up to the fact that the way I thought about web design was maybe three years old. In other words my thinking was ancient (internet years are a lot like dog years). All my sites were primarily table based designs and I had barely touched on the power and robustness of CSS as web design tool. Andy Budd’s CSS Mastery changed all that.
Beyond the techniques Andy Budd describes and illustrates so lucidly you also see the thinking behind CSS design so instead of the book being a simple how to to employee certain techniques it also inspires the reader to explore CSS creatively and artistically on their own.
While the book may not be the best book for someone just getting into web design (Freeman & Freeman’s book Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML is probably a better introduction/starter book) I can’t recommend this book highly enough for the intermediate level web designer that wants to move on to the next level of expertise.
